Massage Therapist
Background:
Philip M. Bice is a graduate of the East-West School of Integrative Healing Arts in North Liberty, Iowa. He also attended the University of Iowa.
Philip specializes in Ayurvedic Bodywork and Shiatsu. He is also trained in Hot Stone Massage and Swedish Massage.
Specialties:
Ayurvedic Massage —This technique, which originated in India, incorporates two types of massage, Garshana and Abyanga. Garshana is a dry massage done with wool, raw silk, or terry cloth gloves. This massage is performed quickly over the skin and removes dead skin cells, stimulating the circulation and lymphatic system. Abyanga is an herbal-oil massage that stimulates both arterial and lymphatic circulation, enlivening and revitalizing the body.
Hot Stone Massage —This relaxing full-body massage utilizes water-heated stones to apply pressure and heat to the body. Stones coated in oil will also be used to deliver massaging strokes. As the stones are placed, they help to retain heat which then deeply penetrates into the muscles, releasing tension.
Swedish Massage —Through the use of five styles of long, flowing strokes, this form of massage has been shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness, and improving circulation along with helping to bring the client to a more relaxed state.
Shiatsu/Acupressure Massage —(shi = finger and atsu = pressure). An eastern form of massage that uses pressure along traditional Chinese medicine channels called meridians and on specific acupuncture points to help bring the body back into balance. Once in balance the body can release energy (Qi) to again flow smoothly through these meridians.
Reiki —A Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by a “laying on of hands” and is based on the idea that life force energy (Qi) flows through us. If one’s Qi is low then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of feeling happy and healthy.
